Unexpected Changes
Becoming a new mother is often one of the most profound and joyous experiences in a woman's life. While motherhood is wonderful thing, the permanent physical changes associated with pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding affects some women's body image and self-confidence. Although some women's bodies are able to bounce back, the majority of mothers find that their skin has acquired stretch marks, breasts appear deflated and they may see loose skin and a bulge in the midsection. The variations in these effects are dependent on an individual's genetics and overall lifestyle but regardless of severity, these unwanted changes to your body do not need to be permanent.
What is a Mommy Makeover?
If you are unhappy about your post-pregnancy body, there are options available to help you regain your pre-pregnancy shape. Despite the beauty of childbirth, it is completely normal and understandable for women to feel uncomfortable and less desirable in their bodies if they cannot regain their former figure. Dr. Romy provides individualized mommy makeovers, which combine cosmetic procedures to help mothers restore their youthful figure and self-confidence.
Breasts
A very common body area addressed with a mommy makeover in our practice is the breast. During and after pregnancy, the breasts undergo many physical changes as they prepare for lactation. Whether a woman decides to breastfeed or not, she will likely see a temporary increase in breast size. When the breasts are no longer filled with milk, the fat and glandular tissue may shrink, and they have a tendency to droop afterwards. Many women find that their post-pregnancy breasts are smaller in size and appear deflated. A breast lift or augmentation are both options to address these changes in the breasts. Some women experience larger breasts persistently after childbirth in which case a breast reduction procedure may help offset the negative effects of having heavy breasts.
Abdomen
A mommy makeover often includes cosmetic treatment of the abdomen. After pregnancy, many women note that their lower abdomen has excess lax skin and a protruding belly. Dr. Romy often includes a tummy tuck procedure in a mommy makeover to permanently remove excessive skin, stretch marks and lower abdominal protrusion. Abdominal muscle separation, medically termed diastasis rectus, can be corrected through a standard abdominoplasty approach, which draws the muscles back together and improves the tone of the tummy.
Liposuction
When women note concerns of stubborn fat on their outer thighs, inner thighs, back and waist post-pregnancy, liposuction can be included in the mommy makeover. Hormonal changes after pregnancy can prevent effective weight loss and toning through diet and exercise. Stubborn fat deposits are treated with liposuction to complete a body-recontouring mommy makeover package.
